Zendaya made history for winning the title of television’s most prestigious award for Lead Actress in a Drama at the Emmy’s! At 24 years old, she beats last year’s winner Jodie Comer, who was 26 years old when she accepted her award in 2019.
Z was also favoured amongst these top actress nominees: Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show), Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), Olivia Colman (The Crown), Laura Linney (Ozark).
The Euphoria star thanked her family, team, and Sam Levinson who created the show. She accepts her award by saying, “I appreciate you so much; you’re my family. I’m so grateful for Rue. I’m so grateful that you trusted me with your story.”
She continues “I know this feels like a really weird time to be celebrating, but I just want to say that there is hope in the young people out there. I know that our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that, but there is hope in the young people. And I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets, I see you, I admire you, I thank you.” Watch her reaction + full speech:
From dancing as on Shake It Up to portraying struggling addict Rue, Zendaya sure has come a long way! We are so proud!
