The iconic show ‘Friends’ had entertained audiences for decades. The sitcom had people laughing as they saw a reflection of their own joys and tribulations through the six main characters: Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe. Although the series finale that wrapped a whole decade of air time was satisfactory amongst majority viewers, it did linger a bit of sadness to what’s to actually come in these friends’ lives.

For one, Rachel gives up her dream life to live in Paris. At the start of the series, Rachel is a spoiled brat who decided to come to her own by waiting coffee instead of relying on her dad’s fortunes. Over the years, we’ve seen her transformation as she grew more confidence, even becoming an executive who was about to land her dream job.

She gave up that job in the series finale for Ross who made little to no effort of meeting her halfway and it doesn’t seem as if he realistically would after the series as their issues were yet to be resolved.

Monica and Chandler are shown at the end giving up their city life for a quiet suburban life to raise their family. While this sounds nice, it also means giving up their friends who they won’t see often and Monica’s career as a high-profile chef, a position she worked hard for as well.

Phoebe on the other hand probably had the most satisfactory ending of all. She settled down with a nice man who will give her a traditional lifestyle, a normalcy contrasting to her unstable childhood; something she never knew she craved.

On the other hand, we have Joey who ends up alone. His friends all moved out which means he probably will be starting from ground 0, having to build relationships all over again – but in his 30s. Although this might suit Joey’s lifestyle, it does seem a bit unfair, even if he does have his own spinoff show afterwards.
