Thew world’s biggest girl group, BLACKPINK, gave fans an insight to their lives with the Netflix documentary “Light up the Sky” and it dropped some major bombshells about the lives of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa from their training days to the highs and lows of pop star life. Here are some interesting facts:

1. They would train for 13 days straight, 15 hours a day, without seeing their family, before getting their 1 day off. K-pop groups are known for their tough training regime to prepare teens for stage. It is mentioned that there would be 3 dance lessons and 2 vocal sessions in a single day.

2. Jennie says they she would see friends go home every month because they did not pass the “test” that grades them on their group dance and song performance as well as a solo song.

3. Rosé says it wasn’t a happy vibe during training because you’re always told you’re not good enough

4. Lisa would always be in charge of choreographing the group’s training dances every month for 5 years because she was one of the top dancers amongst trainees.

5. Their producer Teddy plays a big role to BLACKPINK’s success. Not only does he produce all the songs but he is very close with all the girls and is like the CEO to them. Lisa mentions that every time someone met with him, it was a big deal.

6. There was originally suppose to be 7,8, or 9 members in the group but decided that four members sounded better sonically.

7. Jisoo use to be made fun by her relatives for being ugly. It is hard to believe since she now holds the title of the “Visual” of the group; many considering her to be the prettiest member.

8. Rosé loves singing so much that even now, she would make time to sing for her own enjoyment at night until early in the morning.

9. Lisa started to gravitate towards singing and dancing as a kid because her aunt had a music studio and she would play around with the mics in the room.

10. Their debut song “Whistle” was the fastest to reach number 1 by a new girl group so their popularity started right away.

11. Rosé and Lisa have a really strong friendship. They are very close in age and acts like twins since they use to dress alike. They were both foreigners as well so they connected right away.

12. Jennie would always get sick. She says she runs out of breath more than most people and is like a grandma.

13. Lisa constantly wondered if she could be a good role model for fans.

14. Jisoo is the “unnie” in the group and feels a sense of responsibility to take care of other members. In Korea, if they are older than you, you don’t call them by their names, you call them “unnie” as in older sister if they’re a girl, and “oppa” if they’re male. Since Jisoo is the oldest, she took on that big sister role.

15. Rosé has a hard time being vulnerable in the studio. She wants to write her own songs but is scared it seems really personal to share her own story.

16. Coachella was a big deal for them. The group was super nervous because it was a dream for them. They were also performing at a music festival, not their own concert so they didn’t know if anyone would show up. Not only was BLACKPINK the first k-pop group to perform at Coachella but it was a defining moment that made the girls realize they are more than just k-pop stars as there was a huge crowd there to see them. It was also the first time they learned to enjoy performing and made the training days worth it.

17. Rosé had no personal life on tour. During their 9 month world tour, Rosé felt extremely homesick. She says that on stage, it would be the best feeling ever but once in the hotel room, it was really empty and was just living for the next show.

18. Jennie use to be very shy and admits that even now, she doesn’t have a lot of friends.

19. Lisa helps the group stay positive by being cheerful all the time which is appreciated by the others even though she feels she sometimes overreacts.

20. They imagined themselves in 20 years as 40-year-olds. Lisa would love to travel around the world and live in Paris for a year. Jennie as well and may spend her time in either England or the US. They all probably would be married with children but probably break their backs if they would ever to have a comeback at that age.

It is so refreshing seeing the group’s personal lives and their struggles. We know this is just the beginning for BLACKPINK!
