If you haven’t heard of BLACKPINK, you’re likely living under a rock. This girl group is one of the most successful yet – having broken multiple records. They are the most subscribed music group on Youtube, and their music video Ddu-Du Ddu-Du is the most viewed k-pop music video within a day of release. They have not only performed at Coachella, TimeSquare, and pretty much in stadiums all over North America, Europe, and Asia. Now let’s get to know the four girls that make up BLACKPINK:

JISOO

Who is Jisoo? - Quora

Jisoo is the oldest and often considered the unofficial leader of the group. She is the only one who grew up in Korea so she usually does the talking during interviews in her home country. She can speak Chinese as well and understands some English but is the only one who doesn’t speak it fluently which causes her to not talk as much during interviews in non-Asian countries. She has trained for 5 years and known for some acting roles in the past.

JENNIE

Jennie is the second oldest and known for being the rapper of the group. She was born in Korea but was sent to New Zealand at eight years old to study where she lived with a homestay family. As she was about to enter high school, her parents wanted her to relocate to Florida by herself but she was against the idea so she moved back to Korea. That same year, Jennie auditioned for YG Entertainment where she sang “Take a Bow” by Rihanna. Jennie was the first to be officially part of BLACKPINK and also the only one to have a solo debut with her song called “Solo”.

ROSE

Rosé was born in New Zealand and grew up in Australia. As a child, she performed with a guitar and piano at her church group. At the age of 14, there was a k-pop audition in Australia in which her dad actually was the one that suggests she tries out. She ended up placing first out of the 700 girls! Since she knows the most English, you’d probably find her speaking up the most in overseas interviews. Rosé is most commonly praised for her singing voice and was the last member to be revealed in the group.

LISA

Lisa was originally from Thailand, born to a Thai mother and a Swiss father. She is the first K-pop star who is not ethnically Korean to sign with YG. She was a super-fan of K-pop artists as a child, particularly in group Big Bang and 2NE1. At age 13, YG Entertainment held an audition in Thailand and out of 4000 people, and she was the only one selected to pass. She said it was scary to go to Korea by herself at the time, not knowing how to speak the language at all but that training has paid off. Lisa is the most  is now the most followed K-pop star on Instagram and known for particularly her mad dancing abilities. Not only is she talented at performing, she is also fluent in four languages – that being Thai, Japanese, Korean, and English.
