The hit Netflix show Bridgerton is taking viewers by storm. It is about the regency era that explore themes of societal expectations, marriage, and sexuality. Here are 14 thoughts I had watching the binge-worthy series:
1. Oh it’s diverse? Love it!
2. The diversity gives it more a fantasy feel rather than a historical drama which makes it unique and perhaps will be normalized into its own category in years to come.
3. Daphne’s bangs bother me. As Duchess she shall get a new hair stylist.
4. He looks like a werewolf. Still attractive though.
5. Mother of the year. Can she adopt me?
6. This. Tease. Male thirst traps are always welcomed.
7. The wedding was unexpected. Having the wedding in the middle of the storyline does not follow the typical happily ever after plot that usually places the wedding at the end. But that’s what makes the show unique and allows writers to explore the challenges of marriage.
8. This went from teen drama to porn real quick. After episode 6, it was just a bloodbath of one hot and heavily scene after another. Am I complaining though? No.
9. Daphne lowkey raped the Duke to have a child and no one is talking about it???
10. Glad they are exploring in-depth sexuality from an actual women’s point of view. Many shows aren’t as explicit enough to go into details about how women actually become pregnant.
11. BRB buying corset push-up bras. Self-explanatory.
12. Anthony and Sienna have more chemistry. Everyone is talking about Daphne and Duke but Anthony and Sienna are where the real heat is at. Would love to see him be the main character in a Season 2 instead.
13. Loving the double portrayal of feminism. Daphne and Eloise may be very different, but they are both empowering women. While the more obvious feminist role goes to Eloise who plays the stereotypical woman who doesn’t need a man to be fulfilled and wishes to make her own money instead, Daphne rather desires to be married but still holds her ground by standing up to her brothers for the decisions and participates heavily in her role as Duchess. Daphne can be compared to Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice while Eloise is similar to Jo from Little Women.
14. Where can I go to a ball? Please make this a thing after-Covid.
15. This is British Regency Era gossip girl. Same plots, different eras.
