Yes, I am aware that I am 13 years late in watching one of the most iconic shows of all time….but better late than never! Here are my ten 2020 thoughts while watching season 1 of Gossip Girl:
1. Jenny and Dan are supposedly poor…yet they live in a loft in Brooklyn and his dad owns an art gallery. I did some real estate searching and these lofts are at least $5 million+.
2. The director definitely had a feet fetish. Particularly for Jenny’s feet. There are multiple shots where it unnecessarily featured her feet as a focus shot. Weird.
3. Their cellphones though. Blaire today would have an iPhone 12 with a custom designed Prada case.
4. Nate looks like Troy Bolton. Did every wholesome male lead in the 2000s have this hair cut?
5. Incest vibes. Dan and Serena are dating while their parents are also hooking up…did they pass their attraction to their kids too?
6. Their fashion is really on point. It would still be a look today.
7. The cast is really white – something that definitely would not fly in 2020
8. Gossip Girl is Creepy. Nobody finds it stalkerish that there are people secretly taking pictures of them and posting it online? I get they are rich but none of them are really famous except Serena so why is this okay?
9. A lot of underage drinking. They’re in high school but seem to be drinking all the time at clubs. Guess rules don’t apply to the rich.
10. For billionaires…Lily and Bart’s wedding is kind of…simple. Guess they don’t want to make it big as Lily’s guests have been through it four times already
