Olivia Rodrigo made a stop on the YouTube series Hot Ones where celebrities get interviewed while dabbing their wings on some of the spiciest sauces ever made. Olivia may be call her collective first album songs sour, but she definitely could not handle spicy as she finds just a bell pepper too much to handle! Here’s what she said in her interview:
On her album cover art:
She thought putting happy stickers on her tongue while looking pissed off was a cool metaphor.
On her early start:
Many people think Rodrigo is an overnight success but she actually started out very young performing in talent shows and grocery store openings. She was extremely ecstatic when she won her first singing competition at the Boys and Girls Club where she had a statue as tall as her. “I have always been like singing and making music since I could literally talk. And I’ve been writing songs since I was 9 years old,” Olivia says. She also mentions that she was so confident as a kid to go up and sing but it’s a bit more difficult when you’re older.
On blending in novelty and nostalgia in her art:
She’s always been an extremely visual artist. She’s obsessed with the 90s and the music and pop culture at that time.
On her “good 4 u music” video:
They built a room and flooded it and then set the curtains on fire where they only had one take. They shot the whole thing in a day!
On her trip to England:
She had fun performing ‘Drivers License’ at the Brits but nearly got carbon monoxide while quarantining in a English countryside home.
On the cool bridges in her song:
She says it’s like providing a different opinion or perspective. She loves dynamic bridges where it’s low then high.
As for her ability to eat chicken wings? Not so well! She chucked cups of iced water one after another but it’s great to see her take on the challenge! Watch the full video here:
