Call Me By Your Name is a coming of age film released in 2017 about the romantic relationship that arose when Oliver, a 24-year-old graduate assistant stayed at Elio, a 17-year-old’s home to help with research with his dad. It was heavily praised that year for its incredible use of cinematography, story-telling, and helping to break barriers into shedding light on same-sex relationships. Here are 12 thoughts I had while watching Call Me By Your Name:

1. I can’t decide who’s more attractive. While Oliver is traditionally attractive due to his more masculine features, Elio gives off a mysterious tasteful soft boy charm.

2. Okay so I think Oliver is more attractive but I’m trying really hard to suppress the thought of Armie Hammer being an alleged cannibal.

3. I keep thinking Oliver has an accent but he doesn’t. Armie Hammer’s voice just sounds like it should have one.

4. Something is so beautiful about the way the film is shot. It’s like an old memory or a dream that just feels so real and natural.

5. Did Elio just confess his feelings? I almost missed that. Again, the way the film is shot is almost anti-suspenseful which is even more effective because the audience didn’t expect anything coming. What should have been a peak moment in the storyline is passed off as just a casual conversation in the film.

6. They have SO MUCH chemistry.

7. The peach scene….I can’t believe how far they’re taking it

8. BRB booking a trip to Northern Italy.

9. The movie only has two main characters and many moments of silence, so it should feel small but it’s so captivating that it is never boring. This a hard and very rare thing for a film to accomplish. Props to director Luca Guadagnino.

10. This is quite honestly the best monologue I have ever seen in film. Knowing that his son is heart broken, instead of making a big deal about his sexual orientation, he rather acknowledges it by encouraging him to be more of himself.

11. Elio’s got the greatest parents. You can tell how much they care with the little gestures of comfort rather than head on confrontation.

12. I’m not crying, you are.

Overall Rating: 10/10
One of the best and most unique films of the decade.
