Petra Collins is a multi-talented artist. She is known for her 90s film photography aesthetic that has graced the cover of magazines such as Elle, Vogue, and others. She is unique in the fact that is able to tell stories usually with dark themes. Collins has also directed six, not many, but very popular music videos over the years and we’re here to rank them from worse to best:
6. Trust – Heaven
The music video gives heavy 90’s vibe but overall, was quite boring to look at.
5. Lil Yachty – All In
This being one of Petra’s earliest projects. Although some shots were creative like all of them on the school bus, they were not particularly outstanding and lacked story-telling.
4. Carly Rae Jepsen – Boy Problems
The “Call Me Maybe” singer sure looks different here with her new haircut and this new retro style music video she went for. The song is great, but the story-telling is a bit simple.
3. brutal
Much of Petra Collins work we suspect in the next years will be tied to newcomer Olivia Rodrigo’s. She’s direct two of her music videos and photographed her. They work so well together because both their aesthetics revolved around the nostalgic 2000’s aesthetics. ‘brutal’ is an example of this trendsetting video.
3. Olivia Rodrigo – good 4 u
Petra’s recent work is stunning. She takes Olivia’s hurt and anger from the song to a whole new level, letting us see a side of the 18-year-old breakout artist that we’ve never seen before. Although the whole cheerleader and fire burning in the background shots have been done numerous times.
2. Cardi B. – Bartier Cardi (ft. 21 Savage)
The visuals are stunning and unique. I mean, have you seen a car shot from the inside looking out at a person sitting in the front before? Cardi B.’s lyrics may be raunchy, but with Petra’s direction and filter, the video came across as mysterious and aesthetic.
1. Selena Gomez – Fetish (ft. Gucci Mane)
This is one of Selena’s best videos to date. Petra did justice with the story-telling, interesting visuals, and an overall aesthetic vibe that puts the pop singer’s music on another level.
