10 Challenges Deaf Students Face in the Classroom

Are you shy? Do you not know the answer to this one particular question? Well, here’s the list to help you not get picked on by teachers:

1. Pretend to be taking notes. Teachers don’t usually pick on the students that look like they are busy and distracted because they know you won’t know the answer.
2. Don’t make eye contact. By making eye contact, the teacher would assume you were paying attention and that you know the answer.

3. Answer the question that you do know the answer to. Teachers usually won’t pick on the same names again. If you know the answer to an easy question, answer it. This will reduce your chances of getting picked on for the next, hard question.

4. Look confused/thinking. Everyone does this, and most of the time it works. Use your acting skills and pretend you really don’t know the answer. Teachers usually pick on someone who do know the answer.

5. Hide your face behind a book. If you have your textbook in front of you, hide your face behind it. Some teachers are forgetful. When they are trying to find someone to say the right answer, they will look around the room for a familiar face. If they can’t see your face, it is hard for them to remember your name.
