Selena Gomez recently did a cover for Allure Magazine where she covers topics ranging from birthdays, her childhood, the Black Lives Matter movement, and more while looking spectacular in her Rare Beauty cosmetic to which she did herself with the direction of makeup artist Hung Vanngo.

On birthdays: She doesn’t particularly like birthdays, especially since the 28 year old closing on 30 and doesn’t feel like it is something to celebrate

On Rare Beauty: Sel has always wanted to name her cosmetic brand “Rare” because it makes people feel unique and special and has been working on the line for 2 years

Of her childhood: “I was an only child, and very, very dramatic — which I still am to this day. I just loved performing.” Selena considers her role as Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place, as one of the main reasons fans still love her today because Disney has created a lot of strong female characters. “My comedic timing, my improv skills, everything I experienced made me a better actress” the actress says.

On her fame: The Lose You to Love Me singer said that her personal life was everywhere which made her feel trapped. She cannot google herself even though she considers herself to be strong because she still has a sensitive heart. They would harshly critic her always, especially regarding her weight which was not fair because it was non-controllable due to the autoimmune disease Lupus.

On Sexualization in Hollywood: She did feel the pressure to be over-sexualized on her album Revival which was released in 2015 where her cover was a nearly nude black and white photo of herself.

Of her diagnosis of being Bi-Polar: “I have always had so many different emotions and I didn’t know how to control them quite well,” the mental health advocate says. “It was complicated. But I think I’m happy to understand it. Once I did find out more about who I was, I was proud. I also felt comfortable knowing that I wasn’t alone, and I was going to get through it. So I will always be passionate about that. It’s something I will continue to talk about.”

On Black Lives Matter: Selena says she had a lot to learn which is why she posted continuously on her social media to educate others as well instead of just making. one post and then donating (which she did as well).

On facing discrimination as a Latina: Selena recalls an instance in her early childhood where someone called her father Ricardo who is Mexican-American and him just saying “Don’t say anything, don’t do anything.” She is also disgusted by the policies against immigration as she is once removed from being an immigrant, and wanted to make the documentary Living Undocumented so people can watch something they may not understand. The documentary is one of projects she looks at with the most pride.
