The Bachelor just announced Matt James as its first black bachelor in 25 seasons! This is great news for the franchise who has been called out for its lack of diversity. However, unlike the previous contestants who first become fan favourites through going on the Bachelorette, we don’t know much about him. Here are 5 facts to get you familiarized with this fresh faced bachelor!
1. He’s Tyler Cameron’s best friend. You know Tyler – the runner up to Hannah Brown’s season who happens to be the most followed male contestant on Instagram. He recently quarantined with Hannah, Matt and his other friends in Jupiter where they did a lot of tiktoks. Our hero Tyler is likely the reason bachelor executives noticed Matt.
2. He use to play professional football. Here’s him as a football player at Wake Forest University.
3. He runs ABC Food tour which gives underprivileged children a chance to experience new food and educational activities along with Tyler.
4. His dad is black and his mom is white. He shared this Instagram post wishing his mom a happy birthday. Matt said he didn’t want to be known for one or the other, just for what he does.
5. He’s a New Yorker. Although originally from Raleigh, Florida. He moved to New York and loves the diversity there. He was even New Yorker of the week in 2018!
