TikTok and YouTube star Caroline Ricke is one of the fastest growing influencers today. Unlike traditional social media stars, Caroline uses sarcasm and humour to impersonate her alter ego Rich Caroline, where she channels her inner spoiled rich girl to create content that is filmed like it took place in the early 2000’s, from her Y2K clothes to Elle Woods personality. Here are 8 things you may not have known about the real Caroline Ricke:
1. She moved into a mansion with a bunch of TikTokers from LA to Las Vegas, Nevada where they made up the channel The House Nobody Asked (made up of 9 members – Tyler Funke, Billy, Summer, Marco Borghi, Dawn Morante, Wahony, anthpo, Tobias Phillips, and Caroline herself) where she says the combined rent is cheaper than individual dorm rent in her University.
2. She is 21 years old, a Taurus, and a senior in College – In case you’re curious, Caroline is actually a senior this year. She was born on May 20, 1999 and previously attended Ohio State University. We are not sure if she still attends Ohio State University but it definitely isn’t Harvard like she makes a lot of people believe. According to an article from her high school page, she was was heavily involved in extracurriculars, having participated at Clovernook Country Club for four years, volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and Life Forward Pregnancy Center, was involved in the Debate Club, Earth Club, Green Team, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, runs cross country and is co-president of the Feminism Club. Her achievements earned her a four year scholarship. It further says she was planning on, or still is, studying Nutrition with a minor in Spanish where she aspires to be a Holistic Nutritionist. That definitely sounds different from Rich Caroline persona we are use to.
3. She is the opposite of her character – While many find humour in her alter ego Rich Caroline, she is nothing like that in real life. Caroline tells V Magazine, “None of the ‘spoiled rich’ part of Rich Caroline is me,” she said. “Like, I’m not spoiled and I’m not rich. But I like the humor and the jokes in there, I’ve said those puns and stuff in normal conversation. Sometimes I’ll say a joke and then go in my Notes app and write it down, ‘cause I’m like, Oh, this is good, I’ve got to include it.” But she mentions her house mates find her sarcastic and don’t know when she is actually joking or not!
4. She wants to be an actress one day – Caroline tells V Magazine that she wants to go into acting, perhaps be on Disney Channel. This makes sense as audiences are sometimes confused at first as to whether she is actually a snob or just acting like one. While the videos on her main account are scripted, it is impressive to know that the videos on her spam account are improvised.
5. She loves thrifting – While she pretends to be rich with an amazing wardrobe as Rich Caroline, most of her clothes are actually bought from the thrift shop. Caroline says that it’s been a hobby of hers since high school and loves to get the ugly stuff to style.
6. She is BUSY – While her fans see a glimpse into her life with short TikTok and YouTube videos, Caroline is has to write the script, film, and edit them on top of being a full time senior in University. She also has her own side project like operating on Spicy Girl, a website where she sells handcraft jewelry.
7. Her brother got her to start a YouTube channel – Caroline started video production when she was bored as a freshman and not liking her major. To keep herself sane, her brother suggested she make a YouTube channel. Caroline speaks highly of her young sibling who she says is funnier than her. She tells V Magazine, “My younger brother is funny and we have the same exact sense of humor, but I would say he’s funnier than me. We’ll have conversations and we’ll just be joking around and I’ll take that concept and build off of it too. So we’ll make jokes back and forth, and that in itself is something I use for content and the scripting process. But I don’t know, I think my whole family is pretty funny. […] I guess my sense of humor is very dry. It’s probably somewhat of a defense mechanism, but I don’t know.”
8. Disney Channel is a big inspiration – Surprisingly, Caroline didn’t watch Disney Channel growing up but now she rewatches the early 2000’s shows like Lizzie McGuire to gain inspiration on her filming style.
It looks like Caroline is much more humble than we thought! We can’t wait to see where she is headed in her career!
