Niki and Gabi are beauty gurus who have been on YouTube since 2012 and gained a following of 9.59 million followers to date, making them long-time influencers. In a newly posted video, they share how everything is not just a dream world like it may seem on camera and just like with every job, there is a down side to it as well. Here’s what they said are the “dark” moments of being an established Influencer:
1. Loneliness
As being an “influencer” seem like a dream job for many – having the freedom with fame and fortune coming seemingly easy, it is not a common job and because of that, not many people can relate to their problems or fit into their schedules, making them feel isolated.
2. Not being allowed to feel a negative emotion.
As many considered them very fortunate, any time they complain about problems, it can be misunderstood as being ungrateful. Influencers are still humans at the end of the day and although they may face a different set of problems, it still impacts their life!
3. Fake friends
At one point, Niki actually tried living in LA to be around other influencers and it did not work out very well. According to the twins, it can be very toxic for every hang out to be a business opportunity where everyone gets their phone out and records their activities. If they do not see a business opportunity in their time together, sometimes they won’t even go! This forced Niki to move back into her hometown in Pennsylvania.
4. Being Used
As they are pretty much known to have money, they are expected to pay for everything – including flights, dinners, and experiences for their friends because they can afford it. Even if they dislike the influencers, their so-called “friends” sometimes get along with them just to enjoy the free stuff.
4. Social Anxiety
Since they put themselves in front of the camera, they are easily recognized which can be extremely uncomfortable if you do not feel like socializing. They would take extra measures like avoiding public spaces just to not be bothered. Niki even says she buys all her groceries from UberEats and only shops online while Gabi doesn’t go anywhere without her boyfriend.
5. Demand for content
They feel immense pressure to create content to keep viewers subscribing and sometimes even content that they don’t like simply because it will be popular. Their self-worth is also associated with numbers online and it is judged by everyone to see.
