Elite is a popular Spanish teen drama series about three working class students entering a wealthy private school, clashing their difference in privileges and social circles that eventually led to the murder of one of their classmates. Here are 12 thoughts I had watching its first season:

1. Oh hey, it’s Denver, Rio, and Alison from La Casa De Papel.

2. Their uniforms look so good. I would not complain about the dress code if I get to look so posh everyday.

3. Christian should play Nano’s brother instead. I mean, they look way more alike than Nano and Samuel.

4. Omar really has the worst circumstances. Imagine being gay in a Muslim family while simultaneously being a drug dealer. Yikes!

5. Her headscarf falling off and Guzman seeing her as beautiful is in a way shaming her for wearing it. It alludes to the fact that she’s only beautiful when her hair is shown which is a very Western way of looking at it.

6. I can’t tell if Guzman is actually falling for Nadia because they have 0 chemistry. The pivotal moment when Guzman actually started liking her and not just for a dare was unclear.

7. This is like Gossip Girl mixed with 13 Reasons Why Spanish version. The clash of wealth and parties every night is a total ripoff of Gossip Girl while the confessionals to the murder plot lines is almost in exactly the same format as 13 Reasons Why. Mix the two shows together and add Spanish and you’ll have Elite.

8. What the….

9. I ship Nano and Marina more than her and Samuel. Samuel was child’s play.

10. I’m starting to like Carla more and more. She seemed just like a side character while Lu was the typical mean girl. But she’s more conniving and not as nice as previously thought.

11. Nooooo I don’t want the teacher to be fired. He was the only one with morals. They should’ve had him hook up with one of the students if they wanted more storylines.

12. Polo being the murderer is lame. It seems unbelievable he would hit Marina just to get back on Carla’s good side. And for the hit to be that hard that she sheds blood and dies? They either should’ve played up his craziness at the beginning or have somebody close but unexpected like her dad hit her by accident.

Overall, the series has some intriguing and shocking storylines but at times, it can be slow and the suspense of the Marina’s murder didn’t really live up to the expectation at the end. But it is still worth watching.

Overall Ratings: 7.5/10
